2007 Christmas Party Was Sweet

On December 13, Cub Pack 248 held their annual Christmas Party in conjunction with their monthly pack meeting. The theme was Christmas Around the World and each den provided a station where the scouts could learn about Christmas traditions from other countries. They made miniature gingerbread houses and spider ornaments and enjoyed other activities too. As always the cubmaster handed out the badges and pins they had earned and everyone had Christmas treats.

If you have any photos of this event that you can share, please contact me at cubpack248webmaster@yahoo.com or see me at the next pack meeting.

Boy Scout Bell Ringing Day

On December 8, Cub Pack 248 volunteered to man the Salvation Army at the Greece Ridge Mall. They had a great time ringing the bell, caroling, and opening doors for the shoppers.

Christmas Party December 13

Parents,

We have one week until we have our next pack meeting and awards ceremony. The theme this month is Christmas Around the World.

We are very excited about the program that is planned. In order to make this a successful program we need participation from our pack members.

We need small bags of candy to decorate gingerbread houses. Please ask your leaders for ideas. Wolves have already donated materials for building the houses!

All others bring candy to leaders any time before next week please. You could bring it to bell ringing if you are participating in that this Saturday.

As a pack service project we are collecting items for babies. These need not be large. Each boy should bring, to the pack meeting, one item.

Needs range from pacifiers and diapers to wash clothes and pajamas. These gifts will be given to low income expectant mothers that participate in a wellness program through Unity Pediatrics. Sibling are also encouraged to participate.

Thank you for helping make our pack so successful.

Fun Community Service Opportunity

The Boy Scouts of America & The Salvation Army join forces!

Boy Scout Bell-Ringing Day
Saturday, December 8th 2007

The Salvation Army needs YOU!

The Salvation Army is a life preserver for local men, women, and children in need; But the Salvation Army can only help our neighbors with the help from volunteers like you!

Over the past few years, more and more Scouts have generously and enthusiastically donated time to the Red Kettle Campaign. Please join us this year for a special Scout Bell-Ringing Day. We’re hoping to have ALL of the Red Kettles in the Rochester area staffed by Scouts for the entire day.

The Salvation Army has asked us to man the bell at The Mall at Greece Ridge Center, BonTon East Exit (facing The Source). We need volunteers to cover ringing the bell from 10am – 12noon.

If you didn’t get a chance to sign up at the pack meeting and would like to participate, get back to me to let me know what time.

Yours in Scouting,
Vin Latus

Dinosaurs Everywhere

The scouts of Cub Pack 248 really "dug" their November Pack meeting. The Webelos II Den started the meeting, after conducting the opening ceremony, with a Caveman Song. Then after awards were handed out, the pack broke up into three smaller packs of dinosaurs and enjoyed a dinosaur dig, a dinosaur egg race, and the making of dinosaur hats.

Check back later for more photos.

100th_theme_white_background_scout_with_flag

A Once-In-A-Lifetime Chance:

One of your Scouts could work hand-in-hand with the renowned graphic artist and Eagle Scout Kit Hinrichs in his San Francisco studio!

The BSA 100th Anniversary Celebration Logo Contest is designed to inspire every Scout to be involved in a part of history. We need your help to encourage the Scouts in your area to pick up a crayon, a pen, a pencil, or a computer mouse and submit ideas!

This opportunity is especially exciting because the winner will fly to San Francisco and work with world-renowned graphic artist and Eagle Scout Kit Hinrichs to bring the winning logo idea to life! Mr. Hinrichs is known for his patriotic work involving American flag memorabilia, and several of his pieces are on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for one lucky Scout, so please help in spreading the word! All entries are due Nov. 30, 2007.

To recognize the outstanding efforts of our Scouts, in addition to the logo contest patch and participation certificate that every Scout entering the contest will receive, winners in each category will receive a $100 ScoutStuff.org gift card. The overall winner will receive a $250 ScoutStuff.org gift card.

Entry forms, rules, and details can be found on the BSA 100th Anniversary Web site.

Perfect October Day for Stokoe Farm

Cub Pack 248 spent a perfect October Day at Stokoe Farm in Scottsville on Saturday. Granted, it was a typical October day with intermittent showers and some big wind gusts. But the scouts had a great time with their families playing on the hay mound, go-carts, tractor wheels, corn maze, zip line, giant slide and doing a whole lot more.
